Lisa writes to her daughter about taking chances and becoming your own boss.
Dear Daughter,
As I sit here and write this, I have come to an extremely important crossroad in my journey that ultimately decides my fate. It's a scary thing to think one decision could change the whole destination of my life...
I think a lot of us fear that one difficult choice we make can negatively affect our lives, so we sit around and do nothing for fear of rocking the boat.
But did you ever consider making that leap of faith can reward you in ways that you never imagined? Maybe taking that chance can change your life for the better!
We need to get over the idea that waiting for good things to happen to us is the ideal solution. We are in charge of our own fate. How our life turns out is up to us, despite the obstacles and unfortunate circumstances that challenge us along the way.
Yes, I thought, what if people doubt me and what if I fail? But I would be failing myself if I didn’t try. I owed that to myself and you, dear girl, because I would never know what could be just sitting around hoping, wishing, and praying.
Everything starts with a dream, but you make it a reality.
Always stay strong and determined, my dear. With much love,
Mommy
I wrote this to my daughter when I was at the crossroad of starting my business. Should I or shouldn’t I? I was dragging my feet for months on the decision because it was easier not to try than to fail.
If I wouldn’t have taken that leap of faith into entrepreneurship, I would not have seen the limitless potential that is now before me. I am no longer held by the boundaries of my expectations, because I now know anything is possible.
Yes, I was scared of failure. Yes, I was scared of what others would think of me, but at the end of the day I needed to do what was best for myself and my family, so I dove in and never looked back.
And I’ve never wanted to look back. Becoming an entrepreneur has been the best decision of my life (besides getting married to my high school sweetheart and having two wonderful and amazing daughters, of course).
I’ve now become what we call a serial entrepreneur: Someone who is ALWAYS looking for the next idea, the next venture, and the next opportunity. There are no boundaries anymore.
Today, I challenge you as a mother, entrepreneur, and friend to take the leap of faith into something that could potentially yield great rewards.
I, too, have been weighing the pro's and con's of a potential opportunity and know that it won’t be a success until I take that leap, and that's okay. Uncertainty can be exciting and exhilarating if you embrace it!
Take a chance and get out of your comfort zone!
